Background
Born in Germany, Eva Bauer moved to the UK in 1997 to study art. Following a one-year foundation course at North Tyneside College, she completed her Fine Arts Degree in 2001 with Honours at Northumbria University. Since then she has been a practising artist.
Her work and inspirations
Eva’s abstract paintings combine colour and surface to evoke an atmosphere- be it temperature, mood, emotion or feeling. This she achieves through her deliberate choice of coloured based that is then worked upon. Interested in surface, Eva uses uses dots and lines to construct visions suggesting 'otherworldly' life and landscapes, these are never confined to the limits of the piece but appear as a snapshot of something or someplace that continues beyond the canvas.
Eva believes the combination of control and spontaneity is crucial and that the results are alchemic. Even though the pieces are left 'open' to interpretation by the viewer, they remain her realisation of instinct and experience and are intended to encourage conversation.
Recent Exhibitions
Since finishing her degree, Eva has been busy exhibiting her work in a range of exhibitions. In 2009, Eva exhibited as part of the Newcastle Artists Society Launch Show at the Richard Ling Gallery in Gosforth. She was also involved with the Globe Gallery Art Sale in the Curtis Mayfield House at Newcastle upon Tyne, the Roses are Red Group Show at Mushroom Works Gallery, and did some private commissions for 55 Degrees North in Newcastle upon Tyne and the Newcastle Building Society.
